Bogus Call

I guess I'll only be able to use this sign for a few games before its topicalness expires. It refers to a current news story in which a college football player, Manti Te'o, still played well following the death of his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, and his grandmother on the same day. It turns out that he only knew Lennay online and via telephone or voicemail, and she never really existed. He was the victim of a hoax: bogus calls from a friend of a friend of the family claiming to be Lennay. The Canes are also victimized by bogus calls, from the ref.

Full o' Blarney

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Ref.

Luv for the Ref

Have I mentioned how much I heart the refs?

Ref, Vous Suckez!

You know, for the games against the Montreal Canadiens.

Eye Chart

Strangers have stopped to ask me if they could take a picture of this sign on several occasions. People often ask what IMHO stands for. The full sign reads like this:

O
MG
WTF
IMHO (= In My Humble Opinion)
REFUSUCK
UNEEDGLASSES
GETANEYEEXAMNOWLOL
GOCANESTTYLCLEVERSIGNCHICK

I made the design with a graphics program, printed it onto four pieces of 8.5 x 11 sticky label paper, and affixed the stickers to foam board. I made the sign the same on both sides.

A variation for roller derby is soon to be available as a t-shirt from my friends at Derbylicious.

In League with Satan

Miroslav Satan. One of these days, he'll get picked up by the New Jersey Devils.

Network Bias

Back in the day, we Caniacs felt a distinct bias from the networks, at least ESPN(2), against the Hurricanes. The Canes were formerly the Hartford Whalers, and we felt that the Connecticut-based network resented the team's move to Carolina.

McGeough

Good ole Mick McGeough. I only know about three refs by name.

If You Can Read This...

I don't bring this one to games any more since I created the Eye Chart.

Diving

I've redone these signs a couple times since this first incarnation. They now reflect the 6-point scale that I think is used in diving. I don't have a more recent image of three people holding them up, though.

Sloppier Than Stormy's Lunch

This is an oldy. You can tell by the crappy resolution of my camera phone. Again, Stormy the Ice Hog is the Hurricanes mascot.

Slop Call

Stormy is, of course, the mascot for the Carolina Hurricanes. He is an Ice Hog.

Voodoo Ref

One of the few signs in which I attempted to draw something.
